The two columns are different distributions. Switching columns does not calculate anyone’s tax bill.

Is a $100,000 household income high?
It is above the 2025 household median of $87,460, but below the top-10% threshold of $261,300, before tax. A six-figure household income can include several earners. It is a different claim from one person receiving a six-figure salary.
What belongs in the total?
Census money income combines income received by household members aged 15 and over. It includes wages, net self-employment income, pensions, Social Security and other money income. Capital gains and non-cash benefits are excluded.
Why a band?
This tool uses three verified published thresholds. An income between the median and the 90th percentile stays in that band; fitting a smooth curve would imply detail we have not established. The next-threshold amount and multiple of the median are direct calculations.
Can I compare this with the UK?
The UK main calculator counts individual taxpayers. This one counts households. Converting dollars into pounds would not make the two populations comparable. A defensible international comparison needs matching income definitions and a separate purchasing-power treatment.
